Today is a great day.

My nephew is due any day now -- they're going to the doctor today to schedule an induced birth, so if he's not born naturally over the weekend (and he could be), it'll happen around Tuesday on Friday.

I just found out I get to leave work at 2 PM today, AND it's a three day weekend...so I'll be doing apartment installation and decoration all weekend, non-stop, with no distractions.

The heat has broken, and we have more than 90 days of really awesome autumn weather ahead of us. I already have a new coat; I can't wait for sweaters and scarves.

Haha. Now I really want to be a member of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

Do you know this man? [08 Aug 2006|11:08am]

Do you know this man?

We've been given a challenge; find this man from only his photo. We don't know his surname or even where he lives. (His first name is Satoshi.) Can you or a friend of yours help? How about a friend of a friend? Or even a friend of a friend of a friend?

If you have any information as to the whereabouts of this man, please contact www.billion2one.org (and if you're on my flist, be sure to reply here, of course ;D ).

If you think any of your friends might know him, please pass this message on to them - chances are, someone only 5 links in the chain away from you will know this man!

Rewards for information may be available. For more information about this cause, please visit www.perplexcity.com.

Please repost this!

Because I know you all are as terrifyingly obsessed with Death Note (or Desu Noto, according to IMDB) as I am, here is the English-subtitled trailer for the first part of the two-part movie:

!! And if you're not (yet) as obsessed as I am...go buy it! Because you need to be.

P.S. It looks like these are the first 10 minutes of the film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzRmqg7Ye0M

Ten things I do that make my cat dash out of the room [05 May 2006|11:48am]
  • Sneeze.
  • Turn on the television.
  • Kick her favorite woolly mouse toy through the doorway.
  • Having been seated, stand up. (The same goes for sitting down.)
  • Look like maybe I might think of reaching for her, to say nothing of actually reaching for her.
  • Open or close a door.
  • Pretend to pass out onto the floor and wait until she’s sniffing my face to open my eyes and stare at her.
  • Grasp at her back leg and paw.
  • Act like I’m eating her head like a piece of fruit.
  • Dance around singing a song I made up about how owning a cat is fun, and even though I have to clean her litter box every day and actually give thought and consideration to her bowel movements, it’s still pretty great to own a cat who will cuddle with you when a 4 AM thunderstorm wakes you up.

To be fair, usually she only flees as far as the doorway itself, then watches cautiously until she's sure everything is safe.

For all my similarly Lost-obsessed friends, here's a link which showcases Josh Holloway's (Sawyer) Old Navy commercial, Evangeline Lilly (Kate), in a Livelinks dating ad, and the clip of Naveen Andrews (Sayid) dancing his pants off in Bride and Prejudice (which was also one of the best scenes in the film...I love Aishwarya Rai):

Hee hee.

MLK march [17 Jan 2006|05:12pm]
Yesterday, I took pictures at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day march in San Antonio, the largest MLK march and gathering in the world.

During the march.

Here, constables tell a group of protestors to stop chanting or be escorted offsite. Remember, this was a rally remembering Martin Luther King, Jr., known for civil disobedience. Also, they were protesting a military flyover...at a rally for peace.

HP 4 hilarity [09 Jan 2006|11:15pm]
HP fans, especially slappytanker, should read this GOF parody by davestar707, immediately.

Hermione: That’s not cool. You think Ron likes me?......Sexually?

Harry: (pauses, looks to his side)

Ron Weasley: (moaning in his sleep) Mmmmm! Krum! Kruuuuuum!

Harry: Let’s just say that I don’t think he’s ready to be in a relationship right now.
With you…specifically.

Ron: (his alarm wakes him up) Who’s ready to Krum it up? I am! OMIGOD! I can’t wait to see Viktor Krum play in the Quidditch world cup. Can you guys believe it? VIKTOR Krum. Viktor fucking Krum. I hope they win! I hope HE wins. Omigod! I’m so jazzed!

(Ron skips out of the room)

Hermione: Because he’ll be too preoccupied with schoolwork?

Harry: I thought you were the smart one.

Hermione: (shrugs) Books, not streets.

I did some cool photojournalistic-style photographs for this issue, too, so click here to watch them as a slideshow. I recommend setting the time to 2.5 seconds or slower. My most recent photos are last in the slideshow, but I'm really proud of all of them.

I'm currently in the process of sorting through all of my photos and getting them into the rest of that flickr account, so only a small portion of my England photos are up so far, and almost none of my miscellaneous photos.

Here's the article that I wrote for this issue of the paper.

The recent rape of a University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) student in her dormitory reminds the university community that violence against women on college campuses is a constant concern.Collapse )

The ending to every 80's film ever made.

Press weekend. I'm at 1,000 words and not done, and I need to cut it down to 850. But that's a good thing.

My LJ trick-or-treating haul. Jerks.Collapse )

Texas summers are evil. It's already October (as of this writing) and it's still freakin' 100 degrees outside every day. Yesterday, however, the weather was fantastically, deliciously cool -- somewhere around 75-80 degrees. I was really hoping it would carry over, but deep down I knew that it was just a cruel tease.

Well, weather.com says it's 78 degrees outside this very moment, though, and the forecast for the next week is low 90's during the day, low 70's at night. So there is a small glimmer of hope. I'm ready to wear scarves and woolly socks every day.

For the next two weeks, Venus and Jupiter will be converging at the "noticible rate" of one degree per day. Read this article for an awesome explanation of why we're biologically attracted to this kind of phenomenon.

Also, on September 6th, Jupiter, Venus and the moon will form "a compact triangle that will simply knock your socks off."
